Elpida, Qimonda Sign Joint Development Pact

Tokyo, June 11, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Japan's Elpida Memory Inc. <6665> said Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Germany's Qimonda AG to jointly develop next-generation dynamic random access memory chips.

The two companies plan to release advanced DRAMs in 2010 and start mass-producing them the following year. They will consider joint production.

The tie-up is designed to reduce costs and shorten the time of development through measures such as exchanges of engineers.
